Gasly, Vandoorne, Vergne Named in Veloce’s Virtual Le Mans Team

Pierre Gasly, Stoffel Vandoorne and Jean-Eric Vergne are among the high-profile drivers named by decorated sim racing team Veloce Esports for its three-car virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans entry.

Scuderia AlphaTauri’s Gasly is the third current Formula 1 driver confirmed for the race, along with Max Verstappen and Lando Norris who will share a Team Redline car together.

Gasly will partner two-time Formula E champion and ex-F1 pilot Vergne in one of the Veloce Oreca 07 Gibsons, with support from sim racers Jarno Opmeer and Isaac Gillissen.

Vergne was a founding partner of the London-based Veloce Esports venture, which was started by real-world racers Jack Clarke and Rupert Svendsen-Cook.

The team’s second virtual 24-hour lineup features 2019 Le Mans podium finisher and Mercedes FE driver Vandoorne, alongside Rebellion Racing LMP1 driver Norman Nato and esports experts Eamon Murphy and 14-year-old Tomek Poradzisz.

The third Veloce entry involves Super GT driver Sacha Fenestraz, American open-wheel racer Ryan Tveter, World’s Fastest Gamer winner James Baldwin and his esports teammate Tom Lartilleux.

Rebellion Confirms Half of its Lineup

Nato is set to compete against his Rebellion team in the virtual Le Mans event, while the Swiss outfit has firmed up two of its four crews in association with Williams Esports.

The first Rebellion car will be driven by 2018 GT World Challenge Europe champion Raffaele Marciello, Formula 2 racer Louis Deletraz, plus Nikodem Wisniewski and Kuba Brzezinski.

Nato’s real-life LMP1 co-drivers Gustavo Menezes and Bruno Senna will then share the No. 2 Rebellion-Williams car with Petar Brljak and Dawid Mroczek.

Sportscar365 understands that LMP1 manufacturer and reigning Le Mans winner Toyota is expected to announce its virtual 24-hour race driver lineup on Friday.
