Acura DPi Breaks Cover

Acura ARX-05 DPi breaks cover ahead of formal reveal…

Acura’s ARX-05 DPi car has broken cover, with the manufacturer having released a video of the ORECA-built car, which completed a shakedown at Paul Ricard last month.

Team Penske will compete with a pair of factory Acura DPis in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, beginning with January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona.

In the video, Honda and Acura executives explain the reason to re-enter prototype racing, while showing teaser footage from the car’s initial rollout beginning roughly at the one-minute mark.

Based on the footage, it appears Ben Hanley was among the drivers at the wheel of the DPi car for the shakedown. It’s understood Juan Pablo Montoya has since also been to France, in preparation for the start of U.S.-based testing with Penske within the next month.

The car will be formally revealed at The Quail, a Motorsports Gathering, part of the Monterey Car Week on Aug. 18.
