Thomas Jaeger was the fastest driver in the opening practice session for Friday’s Hankook 24 Hours of Dubai, which ended early due to a heavy crash by a Ferrari.

A 2:00.961 lap time set by the German driver put the No. 30 Ram Racing Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 in first place after 15 minutes.

Jaeger was just 0.011 seconds faster than fellow Mercedes driver Lance-David Arnold in the No. 33 SPS automotive-performance Mercedes SLS AMG GT3.

Stefan Muecke in the KPM Racing Aston Martin Vantage GT3 completed a German top three, the Aston Martin works driver lapping the Dubai Autodrome in 2:01.328.

The session was stopped with just over 15 minutes remaining, after Jiri Pisarik in the No. 4 Scuderia Praha Ferrari 458 Italia GT3 crashed into the barriers at turn 15. In order to complete the necessary track repairs after the incident, the session was not restarted.

The second practice session is set to start at 1:15 p.m. local time.

RESULTS: Free Practice 1
