Bentley Hits Trouble in Sixth Hour

Both of the Bentleys have hit trouble as the Liqui-Moly Bathurst 12 Hour nears the halfway mark, in a race that has gone the way of defending winners Nissan.

In the sixth hour, the second-placed No. 31 M-Sport Bentley Continental GT3 of David Russell pitted with a right-front damage, requiring the car to be pulled to the garage for extensive repairs.

It came less than one hour after teammate Steven Kane brushed the wall in his then third-placed No. 10 Bentley, and dropped one lap behind to sixth with a subsequent tire puncture.

Kane has since been able to regain his lost lap, with the No. 1 Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 of Katsumasa Chiyo out front, ahead of the pole-sitting No. 59 Tekno Autosport McLaren 650S GT3 of Jonathon Webb.

Five cars are now on the lead lap, including the third-placed Kane, the No. 36 Erebus Motorsport Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 in fourth and the Craig Baird-driven No. 37 McLaren in fifth.

Trouble struck the No. 63 Erebus Mercedes of Bernd Schneider during its pitstop when it struck its pit equipment and was delayed, losing two laps. The car now runs in seventh.

The No. 4 Grove Motorsport Porsche 997 GT3 Cup car continues to lead Class B, with the No. 93 MARC Cars Australia Ford Focus V8 still in command of Class I with six hours and 15 minutes to go.
