Formula Racing has won the inaugural Maxi Endurance 32 Hours at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal.

Mikkel Mac, Bo McCormick, Johnny Laursen, Lars Steffensen and Jose Antonio Monroy completed 773 laps in just over 32 hours, driving a Seat Leon in the longest endurance race of the century.

Second overall was the Intersport Racing BMW M3 CSL of British drivers Kevin Clarke, Adam Hayes, Simon Atkinson, Fiona James and Ian Donaldson. The BMW completed 753 laps on the 2.89-mile Algarve circuit.

The Cor Euser Racing BMW 120d claimed third place and the Maxi Touring class victory. Cor Euser, Jim Briody, Hal Prewitt, Maurice O’Reilly and Joerg Chmiela kept the Bolido Racing Viper behind, although that was partly due to various problems for the Viper.

Bolido Racing had been in the lead a couple of times, but engine problems and an off, meant the Spanish team ended the race just outside the top three, still first in the Maxi Cup class.

The pole-sitting Team Icer Brakes Wolf led the race during the night, but gearbox and suspension issues meant the team lost the lead to the Formula Racing Seat. After 28 hours of racing the team parked the car in the garage.

With 622 laps completed before being parked the Spanish team secured the Maxi Prototype class win, despite not completing all 32 hours.

Competitors in the Maxi Endurance 32 Hours were faced with poor weather conditions throughout the event. A thunderstorm on Saturday morning left the circuit wet in the early hours, there was light drizzle during the night and cool, but windy conditions in the final part of the race.

The Maxi Endurance 32 Hours organizers have already announced there will be another Maxi Endurance race in 2015, although no date has been given yet.
