James Davison emerged at the head of the queue on a drying track to score his first Pirelli World Challenge pole position in the No. 33 AE Nissan GT Academy Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 at Barber Motorsports Park.

Track conditions improved following morning rain at the 2.3-mile circuit and when Davison’s team made a switch onto dry weather slicks, he was able to put down the ultimate pole time of 1:27.645.

Nick Catsburg qualified second in the No. 25 Blancpain Racing Lamborghini Gallardo FL2 at 1:28.022, back after missing the Long Beach race.

Robert Thorne ended third provisionally in the No. 6 K-PAX Racing with Flying Lizard Motorsports McLaren 650S GT3, although he had an off-course excursion into a gravel trap at the end of the session. Due to the penalty assessed to him after Long Beach, Thorne will start today’s race from pit lane.

Michael Lewis, now a GT classified driver following two overall top-five finishes in the first four races, was fourth in the No. 41 EFFORT Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R with points leader and three-race winner thus far this year, Olivier Beretta, completing the top five in the No. 61 R. Ferri Motorsport Ferrari 458 Italia GT3.

Mike Skeen, Ryan Eversley, Frankie Montecalvo, Henrique Cisneros and Bryan Heitkotter completed the top 10.

Montecalvo was the fastest qualifying GTA driver in eighth overall at 1:31.098 in the No. 66 DragonSpeed Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3.

Colin Thompson was fastest once again in GT Cup presented by MOMO class at 1:34.819, 23rd overall in the 40-car field, in the No. 11 Kelly-Moss Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

The first of two races this weekend goes green at 11:10 a.m. CT and local time.
