Reaction in the Pirelli World Challenge paddock to Thursday’s announcement of the expanded relationship between SRO Motorsports Group and WC Vision has been overwhelmingly positive by team principals and drivers.

The expanded relationship will see SRO Motorsports Group owner and Blancpain GT Series CEO Stephane Ratel join the WC Vision and Pirelli World Challenge Board of Directors. As well, SRO Motorsports Group is now a shareholder in WC Vision.

“I think to have Stephane Ratel and his organization being part of WC Vision is fantastic,” said WC Vision Board member and RealTime Racing owner and driver Peter Cunningham.

“We welcome him to the board as the architect of the GT3 format worldwide. He brings a unique set of ideas that can add to an already thriving championship.”

K-PAX Racing driver Alvaro Parente, who won the GT pole earlier today in qualifying for Sunday’s race on the Long Beach street circuit, also competes in SRO’s Blancpain GT Series Sprint Cup.

A factory McLaren driver, Parente races for the Garage 59 team in Blancpain GT.

“SRO coming over here and being partners with Pirelli World Challenge can only be a positive,” Parente said.

“I’ve been racing in Stephane Ratel’s championships for some years now. He has been doing a great job everywhere in the world for a long time.

“I hope more European drivers race in the Pirelli World Challenge and more of the guys from here go back to Europe and see what’s going on there.”

K-PAX Racing with Flying Lizard Program Manager Darren Law likes the global platform alignment the SRO/WC Vision relationship creates.

“With GT3 very successful and popular in Europe, and now with World Challenge taking it under their wing and rolling with it here, it really speaks to the strength of this type of car and this type of racing platform,” Law said.

“We can run all over the world with this one platform and I think it’s a great thing for GT car racing.”

Sunday’s Pirelli World Challenge 50-minute race on the Long Beach street circuit is scheduled to go green at 10 a.m. PDT.
