With its usual crop of IndyCar drivers unavailable this weekend, Level 5 Motorsports has drafted in Jonny Kane and Peter Dumbreck for Saturday’s American Le Mans Series-ending Petit Le Mans.

The two prototype veterans will join Guy Cosmo in the No. 552 HPD ARX-03b, with Marino Franchitti rejoining team owner Scott Tucker and Ryan Briscoe in the No. 551 entry.

Both Kane and Dumbreck boast previous HPD experience, with the Irishman having driven for Strakka Racing since 2010, which included two Le Mans class victories. Dumbreck, meanwhile, competed in last year’s FIA WEC for JRM Racing in the team’s LMP1 class HPD ARX-03a.

“We’re excited to welcome both Jonny and Peter to Level 5 for Petit Le Mans,” team manager David Stone said. “They already have experience in HPDs, including Jonny, who won at Le Mans in a very similar car, so that will be beneficial.

“We needed drivers who were quick, but also tend to stay out of trouble and take good care of the cars. They both generally do that, so we felt that they are the best fit to help support support us for Road Atlanta.”

While Level 5 clinched its fourth consecutive ALMS teams’ championship last time out at VIR, the drivers’ title is still on the line.

Tucker holds a six-point lead over Extreme Speed Motorsports owner/driver Scott Sharp and will need a first or second place finish on Saturday to take home the title.
