Major changes are in the works at IMSA, including a new race director for the remainder of the season and into 2015.

Beaux Barfield has become the new race director for both the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship and Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, replacing Paul Walter, who has moved into the role of director of racing operations.

Barfield, who had served as ALMS race director from 2008-11, was IndyCar’s race director for the last three years and resigned from that post Friday.

He will begin his new duties at IMSA during the Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of The Americas on Sept. 18-20.

Barfield joined the previous incarnation of IMSA in 2006, initially as race director for the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge series before working his way up to the ALMS.

Walter, who succeeded Barfield when he departed for IndyCar, will now focus on duties including the development of event schedules and supplementary regulations, as well as the IMSA Rule Books and related updates.

He will also serve as the Clerk of the Course and have an active role in competition-related matters.
