Customer deliveries of the new Camaro GT4.R are set to begin early next year, according to program manager Shawn Meagher, who indicated the initial focus will be on the North American market.

The GT4-spec car, which has claimed victories in both the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and Pirelli World Challenge with development teams Stevenson Motorsports and Blackdog Speed Shop, will, as expected, be offered to customer teams beginning next year.

Meagher said deliveries are slated to get underway early January, ahead of possible entries for the start of the Continental Tire Challenge season-opening round at Daytona later that month.

“Right now, we’re basically in the process of getting back to a bunch of people who have been [inquiring] about when we will have cars,” Meagher told Sportscar365.

“We’ve had interest in the U.S. and globally. We’re just trying to reach out to people who have reached out to us first.

“It’s tough, in terms of getting everyone the cars they want.”

Meagher said an initial batch of 8-10 cars will be made available, with GM set to manage production based on customer demand.

“The biggest thing that holds us up is a few parts that have long lead times,” he said.

With GM yet to detail the possible schedule for European sales and customer support, Meagher said the primary focus, at least for now, will be on the North American market.

“We’re still working that out,” he said on European sales and support. “It depends on the interest here and down to who raises their hand and getting things delivered to the customers.”

Meagher said he’s been excited to see the growth of the GT4 platform as a whole, with Audi, BMW and Mercedes having all announced cars since the Camaro’s introduction earlier this year.

“I’m really excited to see [the other brands] building the class,” he said. “Bringing in [other manufacturers], it just amplifies the class. I’m looking forward to seeing what those guys come with.

“I like having that level of a car as a platform to go with. I think it enhances the rest of us. It enhances everyone that wants to play in this space.”
