Throughout the year, Continental Tire will focus on celebrating the fans, media, drivers, and teams and their contributions to sports car racing, including a weekly trip down memory lane in Sportscar365’s Continental Tire IMSA Reflections series.

This week, Marc Miller reflects on his time racing in the IMSA Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge series, what Continental Tire Challenge has done for his career, and fills us in on some of the memorable cars he’s been able to drive over the years.

What accomplishments stand out to you from your time racing in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series?

“From my first race in the series in 2012 to now a few things stand out. To be able to debut in the series (Barber 2012) and lead a Continental Tire Challenge race against pro racers I had raced against in karts years ago just made me feel like I had found a great home.

“Since then, our first win at COTA for CJ Wilson Racing in IMSA in 2013 and then winning in the GS category in 2016 [stand out].”

What makes Continental Tire Challenge unique amongst the various series you’ve competed in in your career?

“One thing that always interested me about the Continental Tire Challenge was that it was not a spec series.

“It had always been such an amazing place to race against a variety of brands and drivers from different backgrounds.

“The series allowed the drivers and teams to develop a car, something that most environments don’t allow much.”

Was there something in particular that drew you to the series in the first place?

“For me, when our team was being created and cars designed, Continental Tire Challenge was the most competitive series.

“It was not my choice, I was a driver looking for an opportunity to race, but I sure am glad CJ Wilson Racing started in the series. It has been a blessing for all of us.”

What has Continental Tire’s involvement done for Continental Tire Challenge specifically and sports car racing generally?

“From my very first driver’s meeting in the Continental Tire Challenge I noticed a different vibe.

“The Continental Tire staff was personable and did things with the drivers and teams to show they enjoyed their partnership.

“I love the thought that I have become good friends with them over the years. That dynamic is important.

“Continental Tire knew that it was important to connect the drivers and teams with the fans and created great opportunities to do so. I have always been thankful for those opportunities.”

Of all the cars you have driven in your career, which is the most memorable?

“There is something unique and memorable about each car, so this is a tough question. I have raced manufacturer supplied race cars like the Porsche Cayman GT4 and the 911 RSR and really enjoyed them.

“The CJWR Mazda MX5 and the Dodge Viper GT3R were designed and built by people I know personally that I call close friends, and that alone is very special.

“Our current car in our arsenal, the Acura NSX GT3, feels and drives differently.

“Being able to start and finish at the 12 Hours of Sebring in that car for the team I started my IMSA career in was incredibly memorable for all of us.”
