Johnson, JDC Targeting Mid-Ohio Return

JDC-Miller Motorsports is aiming to return to IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition by the third round of the championship at Mid-Ohio in May.

Driver Michael Johnson sustained a broken leg in a heavy crash at the Roar Before the 24 earlier this month that necessitated the purchase of a new Audi RS3 LMS TCR.

Team owner John Church said that Johnson is on the mend and is anxious to return to competition.

“We’ve ordered another car that will be here hopefully mid to late February,” Church told Sportscar365. “I think our targeted return would be Mid-Ohio at this point.

“Michael’s got some healing to do. He’s been a trooper and never wavered. Right away he wanted to get in the car and get going again, so that’s positive.

“We want to make sure he’s 100 percent. If it turns out Mid-Ohio isn’t the weekend then we’ll push it down the road.”

Church was complimentary of Audi’s new TCR offering, noting that Johnson and co-driver Stephen Simpson were quickly coming to grips with it before the accident.

“That program is going well, just unfortunately we had the incident at the Roar,” he said. “I think we’ll be competitive in that program.

“I think everything did its job and the car held up relatively well. It’s just a matter of picking up the pieces and moving on and putting together a better car.”
