JAS Motorsport has launched an all-new Honda Civic Type R TCR car, which is expected to be eligible for competition in both the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and Pirelli World Challenge beginning next year.

The TCR-spec car, based on the Japanese manufacturer’s 2017 production model, features a brand-new exterior design and aero package to cut drag and improve downforce, a new multi-link rear suspension and anti-rollbar system and improved rollcage meeting the FIA’s latest standards.

An endurance version of the car will also be made available for series such as VLN and 24H Series.

While JAS’ previous-generation Honda TCR car was based on a European-spec Civic, the all-new Civic Type R is set to go on sale in North America and would therefore be eligible for use in both Continental Tire Challenge and PWC.

Both IMSA and PWC have limited TCR eligibility to models that are only sold in the American market.

“We are delighted and excited to announce today that we will make the new Honda Civic Type R TCR available to customers for next year and send our warmest thank you to Honda for continuing to give us their blessing for this project,” said JAS Motorsport TCR Project Leader Mads Fischer.

“The new car shows significant development in several key areas such as aerodynamics, suspension and electronics.

“Our first Civic Type R TCR car has won five championships already and is in contention for another eight this year in Europe and Asia, and our aim is to ensure that the new car continues to raise the bar for TCR competition globally.”

Deliveries are scheduled to begin on Dec. 15, with up to 25 cars set to be made available for the start of the 2018 racing seasons.
