Sebring CTSC Weekend Notebook

***A pre-Sebring BoP adjustment by IMSA has seen several changes to cars in the GS field. The two Mustangs have had their minimum weight increased by 45 kgs, while the Cayman GT4 Clubsport has had increases of 5 kg for MR-designated cars and 25 kg for cars in the grandfathered 2016 GS specification. The McLaren 570S GT4, meanwhile, will run 20 kgs lighter than at Daytona.

***In addition to the weight changes, reductions have been made to the refueling restrictors for all cars in the GS field.

***The No. 28 RS1 Porsche was forced to miss GS qualifying after an accident in morning warmup with Dylan Murcott behind the wheel. The car suffered damage to the right rear, and its status for this afternoon’s Sebring 120 is unclear.

***KohR Motorsports will be fielding two 2017-spec Mustangs in this weekend’s race, picking up Scott Maxwell and Jade Buford who drove in a Multimatic-run Ford at Daytona. KohR driver and team principal Dean Martin told Sportscar365 that the decision was last minute, with the brand-new chassis only arriving in the team’s shop last Saturday night.

***The chassis that ran as the No. 15 Multimatic entry at Daytona was unavailable this weekend as it is still in France following a recent SRO GT4 homologation test at Paul Ricard. Ford is still awaiting a final GT4 homologation for the new Mustang which is expected to come next month.

***Stevenson Motorsports is planning on taking delivery of its new Camaro GT4.R cars early next week and is set to debut at the next round at Circuit of The Americas in May. “We’ll be picking our cars up on Tuesday from Pratt & Miller,” team manager Mike Johnson told Sportscar365. “We did purchase two of them, but our plan is to only run one at this time.”

***The car made its competition debut in last weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge season-opener in St. Pete, with Stevenson GT Daytona driver Lawson Aschenbach claiming GTS pole and a pair of second place finishes with Blackdog Speed Shop. Matt Bell and Robin Liddell are scheduled to share the driving duties for Stevenson in Continental Tire Challenge this season.

***Murillo Racing duo Christian Szymczak and Christopher Stone will be back behind the wheel of a Mazda MX-5 this weekend after starting the season in an ST class Porsche Cayman. According to the team, the Porsche was leased from another team to give them a better shot at winning Daytona, but the plan was always to return to the Mazda for the remainder of the year.

***Not all has gone according to plan for that entry this weekend however, as the team was forced to change an engine mid-weekend. Fortunately the team had a second car on site complete with replacement engine, and the No. 34 MX-5 will be ready to take the green.

***Reigning IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA champion Jesse Lazare will rejoin Chris Green in the No. 69 Motorsports In Action McLaren 570S GT4 after that seat was initially listed as TBA on the pre-event entry list.

***The new Montreal-based team has already logged nearly 10,000 miles transporting its cars between its headquarters and on-track activity in Daytona and Sebring. The team has been to Daytona twice: once for the Roar and again for the first race of the season. This weekend marks its second trip to Sebring after participating in a Car and Driver photo shoot at the track in between races.

***Chuck Quinton was a late addition to the lineup for the No. 21 Muehlner Motorsports America Porsche alongside Cameron Lawrence. Quinton is a highly regarded professional golf instructor who will be making his series debut. Kyle Marcelli shared the car with Lawrence at Daytona.

***Defending Sebring GS race winner Trent Hindman made his IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship debut in January’s Rolex 24 at Daytona, finishing second in Prototype Challenge with BAR1 Motorsports. Hindman, who raced over two and a half rainy overnight hours, said the experience was a good one but left him with a case of the flu, which he battled through while filing his first driver column of the season for Sportscar365.
