TRG will return to full-season IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge competition next year, having confirmed Wednesday an Aston Martin Vantage GT4 for Craig Lyons and Kris Wilson.

Lyons, who recently completed with the Kevin Buckler-led team in the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA series, will make his IMSA debut alongside team veteran Wilson, who is a former Continental Tire Challenge race winner.

“I’m stoked to be back with TRG, Aston Martin, and all our great partners along with my new teammate Craig Lyons,” Wilson said.

“It’s my sixth year with Aston Martin and my fourth year with TRG so having that consistency is always key to success in racing.”

The California-based squad re-enters the GS class for its first full-season campaign since 2014 and will be among the entrants campaigning GT4-spec machinery in the new-look class, which adopts the SRO Motorsport Group’s emerging GT platform.

“We have participated in the series multiple times and are really looking forward to being back full-time in 2017,” Buckler said. “Craig and Kris will be an awesome team.

“Craig worked so hard on his driving this past year and it really showed at the end of the season where he was always contending for podiums and won his last race in Austin.

“After all the success with the Aston and with Kris, I almost feel like this is ‘Kris’s car.’ I think he knows this car better than anybody and has shown what he can do with it.

“The series is super competitive and also super well-run with the sanctioning body and the officials and the way things are moving up… It’s like Continental [Tire] Challenge is the new GT.”

Buckler said additional Aston Martin GT4 entries are possible for next month’s four-hour season-opener at Daytona, as well as the season.
