Robert Alon will return to prototype racing with JDC-Miller Motorsports for a full-season IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship campaign alongside Simon Trummer.

The Californian will drive the No. 85 Oreca 07 Gibson with previously-announced co-driver Trummer.

He formed part of 3GT Racing’s factory-supported Lexus program this season in the GT Daytona class after finishing runner-up in the Prototype Challenge class in 2016.

“I always had the goal of running in Prototype and have stayed in contact with John [Church, team principal] throughout the years,” said Alon.

“JDC is coming off of a very competitive debut in Prototype where I watched them regularly compete for overall wins.

“With the expansion to a two-car program for 2018 it just felt like the right time to move up and do something together.

“When I tested with JDC earlier this month in the Oreca 07 LMP2, I felt right at home. The Oreca is a great car and I’m sure we can be competitive in 2018.”

This comes after it was announced on Monday that JDC-Miller will join forces with GAINSCO on its other Oreca, which will be driven by Mikhail Goikhberg and Stephen Simpson.

That car will run the GAINSCO ‘Red Dragon’ livery while Alon and Trummer’s car will be adorned in the popular ‘Banana Boat’ yellow color scheme.
