After being faced with a tough decision on his 2014 plans, it was announced Monday that Andy Lally will remain with Magnus Racing for next year’s TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.

The three-time Rolex Sports Car Series champion will join John Potter in the team’s new Porsche 911 GT America, which turned its first laps earlier today at Sebring International Raceway.

While having been with Magnus since 2012, Lally had also contested this year’s American Le Mans Series with Dempsey Racing, which meant the 38-year-old had to decide between the two teams for 2014.

“It’s been a great run with Magnus Racing to close out the GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series and even sweeter to begin a new era with the TUDOR United Sports Car Championship” Lally said. “John Potter has done an excellent job building a great team around him, and I’m so thankful to have the opportunity to continue on.

“It’s very much a family here, and after our last two seasons, I feel like we have unfinished business. We came so close to winning this year’s title that it’s making everyone on the team all the hungrier, and I want to be a part of their first championship.”

Lally was an integral part of Magnus’ dream season in 2012, which included GT class victories at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and Brickyard Grand Prix, plus the inaugural North American Endurance Championship.

The duo finished runner-up in this year’s Rolex Series season after an unlucky early race accident that took their No. 44 Porsche out of contention in the season-ending round at Lime Rock Park.

“I’ve enjoyed a relationship with Andy that goes back well beyond Magnus Racing,” Potter said. “Ever since joining our team, we’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy a lot of success together, and hopefully we can move up one step in the championship in 2014.

“This organization is a true team effort, and confirming Andy has been the last piece of the puzzle to ensure our plans for next year. It’s great to finally just focus forward on winning the inaugural TUDOR United Sports Car Championship GT Daytona Championship.”

Magnus was the first team to take delivery of the new Porsche 911 GT America earlier this week. Lally and Potter are both getting their first laps in the new GTD car in a two-day private test at Sebring, which kicked off today.
