Mazda Quickest Again in Practice 3 at Monterey

Mazda has continued to lead the way in Monterey, with the No. 70 Mazda Prototype of Joel Miller topping the time charts in final practice prior to qualifying for Sunday’s Continental Monterey Grand Prix.

Miller reeled off a best lap of 1:18.478 in the final moments of the 45-minute session to go quickest, bumping the No. 55 Mazda of Tristan Nunez to second.

It marked the third consecutive Mazda 1-2 sweep in practice for the manufacturer.

The No. 60 Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2 Honda of Ozz Negri was third quickest, with the Corvette DPs from Dane Cameron (Action Express) and Jordan Taylor (Wayne Taylor Racing) completing the top-five.

GT Le Mans was again led by a Ferrari 488 GTE but this time it was the No. 62 Risi Competizione entry of Toni Vilander, who clocked a best lap of 1:23.086 in his turbocharged Prancing Horse.

The pair of Ford GTs were second and third on the time sheets in class.

Starworks Motorsport continued to lead the way in Prototype Challenge, with the No. 8 Oreca FLM09 of Renger van der Zande topping the time charts in the PC/GTD session.

Van der Zande’s 1:20.094 lap was 0.144 seconds quicker than the No. 54 CORE autosport entry of Colin Braun.

The No. 52 PR1/Mathiasen Motorsports entry was third on the time sheets.

Porsche, meanwhile, continued to lead the way in GT Daytona, with the No. 23 The Heart of Racing/Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT3 R of Alex Riberas topping the time charts with a 1:25.639.

The No. 96 Turner Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 of Jens Klingmann was second, followed by the Joerg Bergmeister-driven No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Qualifying gets underway at 4:30 p.m. PT.
