Penalties Issued, One Rescinded after Inspection

On Thursday night, three cars had their times disallowed following post-qualifying technical inspection for the Rolex 24 at Daytona on Thursday night, including the GTD class polesitter.

But Friday morning, one of those decisions was reversed following  a review by IMSA supervisory officials.

The No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Audi R8, qualified by Christopher Haase, has been reinstated to pole position in GTD, IMSA officials announced Friday.

Last night, the Miller Audi and the third-placed No. 46 Fall-Line Motorsports Audi R8, were sent to the rear of the field when officials discovered two different infractions.

For the polesitting No. 48 PMR Audi, the car was originally found to have a rear wing end plate violation. Meanwhile the No. 46 Fall-Line Audi, which qualified third, was found to have a ride height infraction.

In prototypes, the third-placed Starworks Motorsport Dinan-powered Riley, qualified third by Brendon Hartley, was also found to have a ride height infraction and an unapproved aerodynamic device.

The penalties for the No. 46 Fall-Line Audi and No. 78 Starworks DP are still enforced.

The alterations would have promoted Scuderia Corsa to the pole position in GTD, with the No. 63 Ferrari 458 Italia qualified by Toni Vilander. The Finn will co-drive with Alessandro Balzan, Jeff Westphal and Lorenzo Case.

A sister Corsa Ferrari, the No. 65 driven by Daniel Serra, Xandinho Negrao, Marcos Gomes and Francisco Longo, would have been promoted into second, with TRG-AMR’s No. 007 Aston Martin Vantage GT3, driven by James Davison, Al Carter, David Block and Brandon Davis, then promoted into third.

Everyone from fourth on back in the P class will still move up a position in the 18-car class.
