IMSA Confirms PC/GTD Driver Pairing Regulations for 2015

Following more than two weeks of discussions both internally and with teams, IMSA has announced that the driver pairing regulations for Prototype Challenge and GT Daytona competitors will remain unchanged from the 2014 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season.

IMSA issued a competition memo Tuesday, confirming that a second Bronze or Silver-rated driver must be included for three or four-driver lineups in the two Pro-Am enforced categories next year.

Additionally, a maximum number of two drivers are permitted for races four hours or less in length, with a four-driver cap for races between four and 12 hours in length.

A fifth driver may be added to lineups for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, provided the participant is of Bronze or Silver rating.

The ruling comes after mixed feelings from GTD teams about a proposed change to only enforce a single Bronze/Silver driver per car for the endurance races next year.

IMSA reversed the proposal for Prototype Challenge competitors, which were unanimously in agreement to remain with the 2014 rules. However, a number of GTD teams had been in favor of the new proposed 2015 rules.
