Inside the Points Possibilities for Petit Le Mans

The TUDOR United SportsCar Championship concludes its season with today’s Petit Le Mans powered by Mazda.

Here are the points possibilities across all four classes, to determine who will win the overall championships.

Prototype

***Michael Valiante and Richard Westbrook clinch the championship with any top-three finish.

***Either of the Action Express Racing pairings of Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi, or Dane Cameron and Eric Curran, could win the title with a win and the VisitFlorida.com Racing entry fourth or worse.

***While mathematically eligible, the Chip Ganassi Racing Riley-Ford of Joey Hand and Scott Pruett is 11 points back and would need to win, have the VisitFlorida.com Racing entry finish eighth or worse and both Action Express Racing entries finish fourth or worse.

Prototype Challenge

***Colin Braun and Jon Bennett clinch the championship, provided Bennett and Anthony Lazzaro meet the minimum drive time requirements of two hours, 30 minutes for Silver/Bronze-rated drivers.

***Mike Guasch and Tom Kimber-Smith, with a win, would score 36 points to net a total of 313 points. Even if Braun and Bennett finished seventh and last in class but hit the minimum drive time requirements, they’d score 314.

GT Le Mans

***Patrick Pilet will clinch the championship with a win, but otherwise has to finish ahead of the Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner No. 25 BMW Z4 GTE to clinch the title.

***Auberlen and Werner can overtake Pilet for the title if they finish any two spots ahead on track (first to third, second to fourth, third to fifth, fourth to sixth, etc.)

***Heading into the race, Pilet’s No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR has a three wins to two head-to-head tiebreaker advantage over the No. 25 BMW Z4 GTE.

***However, if the No. 25 car wins, it would equal them on three and they’d have the results tiebreaker, with two second place finishes to at best one for the No. 911 car, if the No. 911 was to finish second.

***While mathematically eligible, the No. 3 Corvette C7.R of Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen would need to win and have the No. 911 car finish seventh or worse, and the No. 25 car finish fifth or worse.

MANUFACTURERS

***The same three-point scenarios that apply to BMW’s driver pairing also apply in the Manufacturer’s Championship. If the best BMW finishes two spots clear of the best Porsche (first to third, second to fourth, third to fifth, etc.), BMW can overtake Porsche.

***With only one point separating the No. 007 TRG-AMR Aston Martin V12 Vantage GT3 from the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Audi R8 LMS, it’s pretty simple that whichever car finishes in front will be ahead in points. But whether that’s for the title or second, if they get usurped, remains to be seen.

***Bill Sweedler and Townsend Bell can clinch the title with a win and the No. 007 and No. 48 cars both finishing third or worse. The No. 63 pairing can also win with second and the other two cars fourth (No. 48) and fifth (No. 007) or worse, and with several other scenarios from there.

***While mathematically eligible, both the No. 33 Riley Motorsports Dodge Viper GT3-R and No. 23 Team Seattle/Alex Job Racing Porsche 911 GT America entries would need a substantial amount of help to overtake the three cars in front of them.
