Porsche has been given a 35-point penalty in the GTD manufacturers championship for a technical rules infraction discovered following last weekend’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The Porsche 911 GT America had a front splitter that was not approved through IMSA’s homologation process. IMSA said the component would have been approved if the proper submission had taken place.

Porsches placed first and third in the GTD class, with Park Place Motorsports and drivers Spencer Pumpelly and Patrick Lindsey taking their first TUDOR Championship victory of the season. The penalty does not affect driver or team points.

The infraction violates Article 20.1.1 of the 2015 IMSA Technical Regulations for the GTD class.

The rule states, “Any aerodynamic modifications to the original vehicle (wings, diffusers, ducts, openings, vents, etc.) must be described on the Homologation Form and approved by IMSA.”
