After starring in the opening two rounds of the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, Sam Bird is poised to complete the balance of the season with Starworks Motorsport.
Team owner Peter Baron confirmed to Sportscar365 that the GP2 star will team with Martin Fuentes in the newly rebuilt No. 7 Oreca FLM09 for next weekend’s Continental Tire Monterey Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
Baron said the tentative plan would be for Bird to complete the season, although the 27-year-old Briton will return to Starworks’ No. 8 entry with Renger van der Zande and Mirco Schultis for Petit Le Mans.
Bird has made a splash in his transition to sports car racing, having impressed in the TUDOR Championship PC ranks while also scoring GTE-Am pole in his FIA World Endurance Championship debut at Silverstone last weekend.
He’s scheduled to also contest the 24 Hours of Le Mans, also in an AF Corse Ferrari F458 Italia with Michele Rugolo and Steve Wyatt.
The Florida-based Starworks squad, meanwhile, will return to a two-car operation for Monterey and the remainder of the season, with both cars carrying brand-new liveries, including a yet-to-be-revealed design for the No. 8 car.
