Toyota has taken the wraps off its GTE-inspired racing concept of the all-new Supra Tuesday at the Geneva Motor Show.

The GR Supra Racing Concept, built by Toyota Motorsport GmbH to GTE specifications, coincides with the planned launch of the production car for the 2019 model year.

Few details have been released, although it’s understood the Japanese manufacturer has no imminent plans to compete in GTE-Pro, amid its current LMP1 commitment in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

However, a future move to the production-based ranks appear to not have been completely ruled out.

“We cannot comment specifically on future racing plans other than to say we are considering various possibilities,” a Toyota spokesperson told Sportscar365.

The Supra GTE concept follows the unveil of Toyota Gazoo Racing’s GR Super Sport concept in January, a car featuring the same hybrid powertrain as the Toyota TS050 Hybrid LMP1 car.

Toyota’s sister company Lexus had conducted GTE feasibility studies last year but has since ruled out a program for the short-term, as the manufacturer sets its sights on possible DPi involvement for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
