OAK, Tung on Pole in Shanghai

OAK Racing Team TOTAL will start Saturday’s Three Hours of Shanghai from the pole, following a quick lap in qualifying for the third round of the Asian Le Mans Series by Ho-Pin Tung.

The Chinese driver reeled off a best lap of 1:39.860 in his Morgan-Judd he will share with David Cheng in tomorrow’s race.

Tung’s time was 0.142 seconds quicker than the No. 27 Eurasia Motorsport Oreca 03 Nissan of James Winslow, while Kevin Tse put the Craft-Bamboo Racing Ligier JS 53 Evo third overall on the grid and quickest of the CN class cars.

GT class pole honors went to the No. 90 Team AAI Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 of Takeshi Tsuchiya, thanks to his 1:46.111 lap.

Tsuchiya edged out the No. 92 Team AAI BMW Z4 GT3 of Joerg Mueller by only 0.019 seconds in the closest qualifying battle of the three classes.

A total of eight cars are set to take the start on Saturday.
