Andrea Pizzitola has scored pole for Sunday’s Asian Le Mans Series season-opening Four Hours of Zhuhai, following a heated battle with Jackie Chan DC Racing’s Ho-Pin Tung for top qualifying honors.

The Frenchman reeled off a best lap of 1:38.155 on a drying track in his No. 25 Algarve Pro Racing Ligier JS P2 Nissan, edging out Tung’s No. 35 Oreca 03R Nissan by 0.274 seconds.

Tung was unable to improve due to a red flag that came out with three minutes left in the prototype qualifying session.

Pizzitola will share driving duties with Michael Munemann and Nicky Catsburg tomorrow.

Richard Bradley took Wineurasia to class pole in LMP3, thanks to a 1:41.346 lap time in his newly re-liveried Ligier JS P3 he will share with William Lok and Philippe Descombes.

GT pole honors went to Spirit of Race, with a Ferrari lockout of the first three positions.

Marco Cioci grabbed pole in his No. 38 Spirit of Race entry, ahead of similar Ferrari 488 GT3s from Team BBT (Alessandro Pier Guidi) and Clearwater Racing (Matt Griffin).

The Four Hours of Zhuhai gets underway Sunday at 1 p.m. local time.
