DKR Leads Norma 1-2 in Road to Le Mans FP2

Norma filled the top two positions in Free Practice 2 for the Road to Le Mans, as Jean Glorieux’s late flier put him over two seconds clear of the fastest Ligier.

Driving the No. 3 DKR Engineering Norma M30, Glorieux set a fastest time of 3:51.935, an improvement of 3.8 seconds on last year’s pole time set by Martin Brundle.

The Belgian was 2.255 seconds clear of Yann Ehrlacher in the No. 19 M.Racing – YMR Norma and the repaired No. 55 Spirit of Race Ligier driven by Michele Rugolo.

Celebrating his call-up to replace Lucas di Grassi in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Rugolo was fastest for the majority of the session in the chassis crashed in FP1 by co-driver Claudio Sdanewitsch before the spate of late Norma improvements pushed him down to third, 2.317 seconds off the pace.

In all, six cars lapped faster than Brundle’s 2016 pole time, with the two Duquiene Engineering Ligiers of Antonin Borga and Lucas Legeret fourth and sixth, either side of the No. 89 Graff entry of James Winslow.

The No. 8 SVC Sport Management Lamborghini Huracan topped the GT3 classification, as six manufacturers filled the top six positions.

Steve Hiesse set a time of 4:01.214 in the closing stages of the session to beat Ahmad al-Harthy’s TF Sport Aston Martin to the top spot by three tenths of a second.

Duncan Tappy took third in the No. 24 Garage 59 McLaren, ahead of Michelin Le Mans Cup championship leader Phil Keen in the AMD Tuning Mercedes-AMG GT3, early pace-setter Raymond Narac in the No. 76 Imsa Performance Porsche 911 GT3 R and Flick Haigh’s Optimum Motorsport Audi R8 LMS.
