United Autosports will enter a second car in the Michelin Le Mans Cup, with Matt Bell and Jim McGuire as drivers, the team announced on Monday.

This comes after the reigning European Le Mans Series LMP3 champions confirmed Shaun Lynn and Richard Meins in its first Ligier JS P3 Nissan for the ELMS support series last month.

The second car, with backing from AERO Advanced Paint Technology, will be driven by long-time United driver Bell and returnee McGuire.

McGuire made his debut with the team at the Gulf 12 Hours last December, scoring a podium finish alongside Matt Kegan, Nico Rondet and Stefan Johansson in one of the team’s Ligier Nissans.

Bell has been part of the team since 2010, and last year joined Mark Patterson and Wayne Boyd in one of the team’s two ELMS LMP3 entries.

“I’m really excited to be back with United Autosports,” Bell commented. “I’m looking forward to working with Jim throughout the year.

“The Michelin Le Mans Cup looks like a really exciting championship – we were watching it last year during the ELMS weekends and there were some great battles going on with the GT cars.

“Now LMP3 has been added into it I think it will still be really exciting and a competitive series. We get to go to Le Mans and we get two one-hour races this time, so we will get some really good running there and who doesn’t want to do that!”

This announcement brings the West Yorkshire, England-based team’s number of entries in the ELMS paddock up to five, comprising a Ligier JS P217 Gibson and four Ligier JS P3 Nissans, with two apiece in ELMS and Le Mans Cup.
