ORECA has delivered its 20th Oreca 07 Gibson, marking a significant milestone for the French constructor and the new-for-2017 LMP2 regulations.

The car, believed to be a spare chassis for one of the existing teams, was delivered last week, ahead of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, where a total of 14 Orecas will be on the grid in the 25-car LMP2 class, including the two Alpine A470-badged cars from the Signatech squad.

While a handful of Orecas were upgraded from the previous-generation Oreca 05, the constructor has enjoyed an early dominance in numbers, with only Onroak Automotive having also reached double-digit production numbers for its Ligier JS P217, out of the four licensed LMP2 constructors.

It’s understood there are upwards of 50 new-generation LMP2 chassis in existence worldwide, including the DPi models competing in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.

An ORECA spokesperson confirmed that its 21st chassis is expected to be completed this weekend.
