Longtime Porsche single-make series entrant Project 1 has confirmed the acquisition of a new Porsche 911 RSR for a likely GTE-Am campaign in the FIA World Endurance Championship next season.

The German squad, regulars in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, is understood to be receiving a recently seventh allocated mid-engined Porsche, after the manufacturer had initially announced a run order of six customer cars for 2018.

It joins the four already-confirmed four orders from Proton Competition, a single car from Gulf Racing and a to-be-announced customer in Asia.

“It’s certainly a milestone in our company history,” said Project 1 team owner Hans-Bernd Kamps. “It’s fitting for our 25th anniversary in 2018. We will be getting one of the most sought-after cars in motorsport and [race] this masterpiece.

“Above all, it’s a vote of confidence between Porsche and us.”

Project 1’s program, or drivers, have yet to be announced, with a GTE-Am campaign in the WEC understood to be the leading option.

However, as has been the case in the WEC, as well as the 24 Hours of Le Mans, entries are subject to the ACO Selection Committee.

“Of course we know that it will take hard work and an extensive learning process to work with the car,” said project leader Axel Funke. “Nevertheless, we are up to the challenge and see the great opportunities that are associated with the project.”
