BMW has confirmed the initial batch of customers for its M4 GT4 car, including a quartet of teams from North America, as the first deliveries have begun.

A launch event was held Wednesday at BMW Welt in Munich, which saw a number of longstanding BMW Motorsport customers receive their cars ahead of the 2018 seasons.

It comes after an extensive test and development program for the new GT4 contender, which has completed nearly 20,000 miles, including multiple 24 and 12-hour endurance races around the world in preparation for the full customer rollout.

“Today is a very special day for us. After intensive months of testing and development, the BMW M4 GT4 is now officially ready to race,” said BMW Motorsport Director Jens Marquardt.

“I’m particularly pleased that we were able to deliver the first models to our customer teams at such an early stage.

“This means that our customers are now able to test the BMW M4 GT4 thoroughly and familiarize themselves with the car. This has laid the foundations to successful customer racing outings.”

Longtime BMW entrants Turner Motorsport and BimmerWorld Racing have been confirmed as initial North American customers, alongside Samatha Tan Racing and Fast Track Racing.

Turner is expected to field M4 GT4s in both the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge and Pirelli World Challenge, with BimmerWorld also a longtime Continental Tire Challenge competitor.

European outfits Securtal Sorg Rennsport, RN Vision STS, Gamsiz Motorsport and 3Y Technology, as well as BMW Team SRM, Team KATO Racing by Tony Longhurst and Kent Baigent from Australia/New Zealand and Taiwanese-based AAI Motorsports are also taking delivery of M4 GT4s.

The car is priced at $199,000 USD (169,000 Euros) as one of the more affordable GT4 options.

“We are pleased with the GT4 car in every respect so far,” Marquardt added. “The interest and demand from customer teams around the world has been incredibly high from the start. This acclaim makes us feel very positive.

“The production model BMW M4 Coupé provides the BMW M4 GT4 with a very strong basis, and we are extremely confident that the race car will become a guarantee of success for our customers.”
