The FIA has opened the tender process for the GT3 Pro-Am World Cup, which is expected to debut in 2018.
The end-of-year event, similar to the FIA GT World Cup in Macau, will be open to Pro-Am drivers and privateer teams, with the Macau race shifting to a predominately professional race with factory or works-backed teams.
SRO Motorsports Group is expected to be among the organizations submitting a bid, with the Stephane Ratel-run organization already involved in the promotion of the World Cup event in Macau.
“I totally support the idea,” Ratel said of the Pro-Am World Cup. “SRO is very interested but I think it’s quite open. All promoters are welcome to make propositions so we’ll make one and we’ll see.”
Promoters have until Sept. 30 to file a tender, via the FIA’s Web site.
