The FIA has revealed plans to launch a seperate FIA GT World Cup for Pro-Am drivers, with the existing event dedicated to manufacturers.

The plan, revealed during Thursday’s FIA World Motor Sport Council meeting in Geneva, would see the creation of a second standalone event, in a different venue and date to the current FIA GT World Cup.

“The Commission aims to launch an invitation to tender for a promoter to propose the full concept of an FIA GT3 PRO/AM customer event,” a statement from the FIA read.

Further details on the proposal have not yet been made public, although it’s understood a GT World Cup event Paul Ricard has been under consideration.

It’s unclear if the possible Paul Ricard race would replace Macau as the manufacturer event or potentially be the Pro-Am meeting for GT3 machinery, as the FIA has yet to confirm a return to the Guia circuit.

The Macau event came under fire last year, following Laurens Vanthoor’s win, despite finishing the race upside down in an incident-marred race.

Manufacturers were set to meet with the FIA in January to discuss the event’s future.
