It’s a very short Sportscar365 Weekend Racing Roundup this week, as teams and drivers prepare for the Total 24 Hours of Spa. Fuji International Speedway hosted rounds five and six of the GT Asia Series, with two different race winners.

GT Asia Series
Carlo van Dam and Piti Bhirom Bhakdi had been strong last time out at Okayama, but broke through to take their first win at Fuji International Speedway. Van Dam and Toni Vilander diced with each other for several laps, before the Dutchman took the lead when almost ran wide. Piti exited the pit some six seconds clear of Mok Weng Sung and the multiple champion was unable to overtake the Thai driver. A Ferrari top three after 32 laps was the result.

Race two saw the first two-time winners of the year, as Absolute Racing’s Keita Sawa and Adderly Fong claimed victory with their Bentley Continental GT3. An incident took out the round five winning Ferrari, but Fong kept clear and took the lead just before the halfway point of the race. Sawa rejoined behind Darryl O’Young, but after fighting for a couple of laps he passed the Aston Martin driver and went on to win the race.

Race 1 – 1. Singha Motorsport Team (Van Dam/Bhirom Bhakdi) Ferrari, 2. Clearwater Racing (Vilander/Mok) Ferrari, 3. Clearwater Racing (Griffin/Wee) Ferrari.

Race 2 – 1. Bentley Team Absolute (Sawa/Fong) Bentley, 2. Craft Bamboo Racing (O’Young/Venter) Aston Martin, 3. Spirit of Race (Wiser/Jiang) Ferrari.
