Jeroen Mul’s father and two directors of a construction company have been arrested in The Netherlands on suspicion of corruption, forgery and tax fraud related to the sponsorship of his son’s racing efforts.

According to De Telegraf, Cor van Mul, a project developer, has been suspected of accepting 500,000 Euros ($610,000) in bribes from the construction company Hillen and Roosen that ultimately went to fund the Lamborghini GT3 Junior driver’s career.

The FIOD, the Dutch equivalent of the IRS, states that the alleged kickback was used in order to obtain a construction contract for luxury housing in Amsterdam.

“The project developer paid this amount as costs to the construction company, who transferred the amount to a foundation of the project developer as if it were the sponsorship money,” a statement from FIOD states.

Mul, a GT Daytona class race winner in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship with Change Racing last year, was announced on Tuesday as part of Imperiale Racing’s lineup in International GT Open.
