Bernd Schneider has put the No. 2 Black Falcon Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 on top of the time charts following the conclusion of the second round of qualifying for the Nürburgring 24.

Schneider reeled off a 8:20.034 lap time in the closing moments of the two-hour mixed weather session, which like last night’s Q1, ended in dry conditions following rain and fog early.

The Mercedes’ time was 2.874 seconds quicker than the No. 26 BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS BMW Z4 GT3, which ended up second, ahead of the No. 007 Aston Martin Racing V12 Vantage GT3 in third.

The No. 84 Bentley Continental GT3 and No. 29 Audi Sport Team WRT Audi R8 LMS completed the top-five, with all of the leading times set in the final 10 minutes, and improving significantly over Q1 last night.

In addition to the pre-qualified cars from the VLN rounds and Qualifying Race last month, 13 additional entries have provisionally advanced to this afternoon’s Top-30 Qualifying shootout, which will set the final grid.

It includes the No. 1 Audi, No. 25 BMW, Nos. 28 and 29 Audis, No. 006 Aston Martin, Nos. 2 and 5 Mercedes, No. 11 Bentley, No. 10 Porsche, Nos. 21 and 35 Nissans, No. 33 Mercedes and No. 15 Audi.

The remaining grid from positions 31 on back have been finalized following the two qualifying sessions held last night and this morning.

Top-30 Qualifying gets underway at 5:10 p.m. local.
