WRT Crashes Out in Hour 6; Manthey Leads

Heavy shunt for Dries Vanthoor takes WRT Audi out of N24; Manthey leads after six hours…

Audi Sport Team WRT is out of contention in the Nürburgring 24 after a heavy shunt for Dries Vanthoor shortly before six hours of the race had been completed.

Vanthoor appeared to pick up a puncture after slight contact, sending the No. 8 Audi R8 LMS GT3 into a spin and into the barrier.

The incident happened at the end of the Döttinger Höhe, one of the fastest points on the track. The young Belgian was OK after the accident.

The car, which Vanthoor shared with Rene Rast, Robin Frijns and Kelvin van der Linde, was running in fourth position before the incident and as the highest-placed Audi.

Rast and van der Linde are pulling double duty and so will now both focus their efforts on the No. 1 Audi Sport Team Land entry which is running 12th with Christopher Mies at the wheel.

Manthey Racing still leads the race overall with Kevin Estre currently out front in the No. 911 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Adam Christodoulou is second in the No. 4 Mercedes-AMG Team Black Falcon entry, meanwhile.

The Brit lost the lead to Estre earlier in their stints when he missed a green flag at the end of a Code 60 slow zone.
