VLN
ROWE Racing won the “Opel 6h ADAC Ruhr-Pokal-Rennen” at the Nürburgring Norschleife this weekend, its third consecutive win of the race. Bad weather conditions made it difficult to race this weekend and the weather caught out several top cars, including the Falken Porsche, Frikadelli Porsche, works Aston Martin, Dörr Motorsport McLaren and Hofor Racing Mercedes.

20 laps into the race the ROWE Racing Mercedes SLS AMG GT3, driven by Jan Seyffarth and Thomas Jäger, moved into the lead of the race and it would remain in the lead until the finish. On the last lap the team pitted to change to wets, but with the second-placed Haribo Racing Team Porsche 911 GT3 of Norbert Siedler, Mike Stursberg and Uwe Alzen doing the same ROWE’s lead was never threatened.

Race – 1. ROWE Racing (Seyffarth/Jäger) Mercedes, 2. Haribo Racing Team (Siedler/Stursberg/Alzen) Porsche, 3. Wochenspiegel Team Manthey (Weiss/Kainz/Jacobs/Krumbach) Porsche.

Australian GT Championship
Tony Quinn and Richard Muscat claimed victories at Sydney Motorsport Park during the fourth round of the Australian GT Championship presented by Pirelli.

On Saturday Muscat started from pole and the Erebus Motorsport driver held onto the lead until the pit window opened. A crash resulted in a safety car period for 15 minutes, but moments after the race was restarted the safety car was back on track, as Muscat had stopped on the track, due to a fuel pickup issue. By then Tony Quinn was in the lead and he went on to win the first of the two races.

Muscat started race two from the back of the grid, but was tenth at the end of lap one, and sixth by the end of lap two. Tony Quinn was leading his son Klark, until lap 16 when Klark passed his father. After the pit stops Tony Quinn was back in the lead, but within three laps Muscat closed the gap, taking the lead on lap 28. He finished 26 seconds ahead of Tony Quinn.

Race 1 – 1. VIP Petfoods (T. Quinn) Aston Martin, 2. VIP Petfoods (K. Quinn) McLaren, 3. M-Motorsport (McMillan/Richards) Lamborghini.

Race 2 – 1. Erebus Motorsport (Muscat) Mercedes, 2. VIP Petfoods (T. Quinn) Aston Martin, 3. VIP Petfoods (K. Quinn) McLaren.

IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lites
Mikhail Goikhberg and Brian Alder clinched the L1 and L2 championships with a weekend sweep of victories at Virginia International Raceway.

Goikhberg clinched his first title with his seventh victory of the season in the No. 10 JDC Motorsports entry. He held off pole sitter Andrew Novich by 0.214 seconds after a fierce final-lap charge by Novich in the No. 61 Comprent Motor Sports entry.

One day later, Goikhberg visited victory lane again in Sunday’s 45-minute race, this time holding off 16-year-old Matt McMurry, who earned a season-best second place result in the sister JDC entry. The race ended under caution following an accident by the TUDOR Championship Prototype Challenge entry of Bruno Junqueira.

Alder, meanwhile, swept both races as well in his No. 22 BAR1 Motorsports entry, enough to give the team owner/driver the class championship with two races still to run at Road Atlanta in October.

Race 1 – 1. JDC Motorsports (Mikhail Goikhberg), 2. Comprent Motor Sports (Andrew Novich), 3. JDC Motorsports (Matt McMurry)

Race 2 – 1. JDC Motorsports (Mikhail Goikhberg), 2. JDC Motorsports (Matt McMurry), 3. Comprent Motor Sports (Andrew Novich)

Sunday’s race was more of the same for the duo, who took their Gallardo LP 570-4 Super Trofro to a 4.293-second win over the No. 07 Mitchum Motorsports Lambo of Dillon Machavern. While Povoledo led by more than 22 seconds, a full-course caution bunched up the field at the end.
