SRO Motorsports Group has officially resurrected the Group N category for this year’s Total 24 Hours of Spa, which will see a variety of single-make Cup cars do battle in the flagship race of the Blancpain GT Series.

The category, initially named for nationally-homologated cars, has been in the event regulations for years but the most recent entry was in 2013, prior to the concentration of GT3 machinery around the Blancpain Endurance Series.

Group N was previously home to special entries, such as the Gillet Vertigo, Mosler MT900 and Ford Mustang, cars that were not GT1, GT2 or GT3-homologated at the time.

This year, Group N will be divided into two Cups: XtraCup for high-level single-make cars such as the Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeo and Renualt RS01, and Cup, for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, Ferrari 458 Challenge and Maserati Trofeo cars.

All cars entered in Group N must be driven by three Bronze drivers, or three Bronze and one Silver (who cannot drive for more than six hours). The category will have its own classification and separate podium ceremony.

The GT3 grid, meanwhile, split between Pro Cup, Pro Am Cup and Am Cup, is expected to be in excess of 60 cars.
