Phoenix Audi Quickest in Free Practice 2 in Sepang

Audi Sport Team Phoenix has led the way in Thursday evening’s Free Practice 2 for the Motul Sepang 12 Hours, the third and final round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge season.

The No. 16 Audi R8 LMS of Rene Rast reeled off a quick time of 2:04.127 in the two-hour session, outpacing the Free Practice 1 pace-setting No. 9 K-PAX Racing McLaren 650S GT3 0.047 seconds.

Rast will be sharing driving duties of the Audi with Pierre Kaffer and Markus Winkelhock on Saturday.

The No. 50 Spirit of Race Ferrari 488 GT3 was third quickest on the time sheets, followed by the quickest of the Porsches, the No. 911 Manthey Racing entry in fourth. JLOC’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 completed the top-five.

All 25 cars set times in the session, following the return of the No. 27 Nexus Infinity Ferrari 488 GT3 after its fire in the morning Paid Practice session.

There were no major incidents in the session, other than a brief red flag period for debris.

Free Practice 3 is scheduled for 11 a.m. local time.
