GMG Porsche Tops SprintX Opening Practice in Monterey

Alec Udell led the way in opening practice for this weekend’s Pirelli World Challenge SprintX season finale at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The GMG Racing driver, making his GT class debut, reeled off a best lap of 1:24.970 to go quickest in the 30-minute session in the No. 14 Porsche 911 GT3 R.

Udell edged out the No. 46 Mills Racing BMW Z4 GT3 of John Edwards by 0.439 seconds, with the No. 23 M1 GT Racing Audi R8 LMS of Dion von Moltke making it three different GT3 manufacturers in the top-three.

Andy Pilgrim, returning to PWC action in the No. 54 Black Swan Racing Porsche, and the No. 80 Lone Star Racing Dodge Viper GT3-R of Mike Skeen completed the top-five.

The pair of Lamborghini Huracan Super Trofeos swept GT Cup, while the No. 77 TRG-AMR Aston Martin Vantage GT4 of Brandon Davis led the way in GTS.

A total of 22 of the 26 entered cars set times in the session, with no major incidents reported.

Practice 2 gets underway at 1:20 p.m. PT, followed by qualifying later this afternoon.
