When it comes to racing Porsches, Kelly Moss Motorsports and TruSpeed Autosport are two of the iconic names in the sport.

With a long pedigree of success that stretches through the decades with wins and championships in a range of categories, Kelly Moss and TruSpeed have long been synonymous with success. And through the years there has been one constant for both TruSpeed and Kelly Moss: Porsche.

Looking to extend that legacy of success in the 2015 Pirelli World Championship, the two teams have announced a working partnership that will see Madison, Wis.-based Kelly Moss Motorsports and Costa Masa, Calif.-based TruSpeed Autosport work together.

The two teams will combine forces to field three entries in the GT Cup presented by MOMO, an all-new class for World Challenge competition that will feature the Porsche GT3 Cup.

Kelly-Moss was first formed in 1989 by David Stone, with the team winning on debut with a Porsche 944 in IMSA Firehawk competition and returning to take the championship in 1990.

David and Jeff Stone are partners in Kelly Moss and Stone Brothers Garage, and the duo have fostered the team’s competitive legacy in every category that Kelly Moss Motorsports has competed in, including the Bridgestone SuperCar Series and World Challenge.

TruSpeed’s racing history stretches back to when the team was formed to support Robert Morgan’s race efforts, with an exclusive focus on racing Porsches since 2001. That history includes a long and strong presence in the World Challenge ranks, with the team taking the Team and Driver Championships in 2011.

“I think it is pretty exciting to have two independent teams like TruSpeed and Kelly Moss come together and lock arms to partner up and work together,” said TruSpeed Autosport team owner Tyler Tadevic.

“We are very proud of our record in World Challenge, not the least of course going up against the might of factory teams and winning the championship like we did in 2011, and we want to continue that kind of performance this year.

“Working with Jeff (Stone, Kelly Moss Motorsports Vice President) is going to give us all the tools to do that so I’m happy with how this all came together, and we are all looking forward to getting to COTA (Circuit of the Americas) and starting this season off well.”

Kelly-Moss won the 2014 IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama Platinum Cup championship with driver Colin Thompson, who will return to the squad for the 2015 World Challenge effort.

“We will maintain our program in IMSA Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge USA by Yokohama, but it was also important for us to return to World Challenge and to continue to support Colin (Thompson),” said Stone.

“Working with TruSpeed was a great solution for us to be able to do both those things, and do them well. Our conversations with Tyler (Tadevic) were very straightforward and it was remarkable how quickly we could put all the pieces together logistically to develop this program.

“GT Cup will be very competitive but we are excited about our program and can’t wait to get going.”

The effort will take to the track for its first outing as the 2015 Pirelli World Challenge season kicks off March 6-8 at the Circuit of the Americas outside of Austin. TruSpeed will announce team commercial partners and driver line ups this week.
