After four years of trying to make its way onto a North American road racing championship schedule, the Unlimited Racing Championship has been announced to race with selected Pirelli World Challenge events in 2015.

URC cars will race on PWC weekends at the PWC standalone races at Circuit of The Americas, Road America, Miller Motorsports Park, and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

The series’ NuArt CanAm cars were initially announced at the American Le Mans Series’ weekend at Mazda Raceway in September 2011, but never made it onto an ALMS weekend between 2012 and 2013.

“This project has been years in the making,” said Richard Nauert, URC founder and NuArt CanAm car designer. “We analyzed the original Can-Am cars, remaining true to the visual, as well as spiritual concept. Components like big block engines, 12-inch steel brakes, and Can-Am intakes were just some of the historical elements we maintained in the NuArt CanAm car.

“Despite the obvious tribute to the original cars, we loaded them with modern technology. The technology is specifically to make them safe, have great reliability, and be flexible for a wide range of driver skills.”

Added Scott Bove, PWC President and CEO, “The Pirelli World Challenge is looking forward to having the Unlimited Racing Championship competing at four of our Pirelli World Challenge headliner events in 2015. Having the URC at these events will help create the fan experience we are targeting for these events.”

The Can-Am era-looking cars are purpose-built and engineered for safety, reliability, aerodynamics, driver comfort and speed. The cars feature 700+ horsepower, big block V-8 motors and state-of-the-art aerospace quality components with an emphasis on safety.

The new Unlimited Racing Championship Series will feature identically prepared NuArt CanAm cars, with two 30-minute races at each circuit. Cars will be fully prepped for the owner/driver by the URC series organizer and ready to race at each venue.

Several cars were built in 2011 for the Mazda Raceway debut and a full run of cars would be forthcoming, to ideally see the URC field in double digits for those PWC headliner weekends.
