Tandy, Porsche Quickest on Friday at Lime Rock

Porsche has continued its dominant form in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship competition, with Nick Tandy topping the time charts in the opening day of track action at Lime Rock Park.

Tandy’s 49.782-second lap in the No. 911 Porsche 911 RSR from Friday’s third and final practice session was quickest of the day in preparation for Saturday’s Northeast Grand Prix.

The Englishman and teammate Laurens Vanthoor were the only drivers to break the 50-second barrier, with Vanthoor ending up second quickest with a 49.938 time.

Porsche is seeking its sixth consecutive GT Le Mans class victory in Saturday’s two-hour and 40-minute race.

The No. 67 Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GT of Richard Westbrook was third quickest in final practice, followed by Oliver Gavin’s No. 4 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, which was stuffed into the tire barriers earlier on in the hands co-driver Marcel Fassler.

Fassler brought the Corvette back to the pits under his own power, where the team made repairs to the nose before rejoining.

Dirk Mueller, meanwhile, completed the top-five in the No. 66 Ford.

Sellers Paces Practice 3; Turner Quickest in GTD on Friday

A 51.797-second lap time by Bryan Sellers put Paul Miller Racing’s Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo on top in the session, although it was a 51.715-second time by Bill Auberlen in Practice 2 that had Turner Motorsport quickest of the day.

The No. 96 Turner BMW M6 GT3 was the only car not to take part in the third session, however.

Patrick Long recorded the second quickest time in the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R, followed by class championship leader Mario Farnbacher in the No. 86 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT3 Evo.

Qualifying for the GT-only race gets underway at 9:35 a.m. EDT on Saturday, ahead of the 3:10 p.m. race start that afternoon.
