Holton, C360R Take CTSC Pole at Road America

Paul Holton took pole position for the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Road America 120 in the No. 76 C360R McLaren 570S GT4.

Holton turned in his fast lap of 2:20.185 early in the qualifying session, which was fast enough to secure the top spot by 0.262 seconds over the No. 59 KohR Motorsports Ford Mustang of Jack Roush Jr.

Roush’s ability to participate in qualifying was in some doubt after he came into the pits with a significant amount of smoke coming from under the car at the end of Practice 3, which immediately preceded qualifying.

The crew made rapid repairs to Mustang and returned in time to secure a starting position on the outside of the front row.

Dylan Murcott qualified third in the No. 28 RS1 Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport MR, ahead of the McLarens of Mathew Keegan and Chris Green.

James Clay grabbed the ST pole in the No. 84 BimmerWorld Racing BMW 328i, turning in a class-best lap of 2:31.288.

Derek Jones led a trio of MINI JCW machines in positions two, three, and four in ST qualifying, with Mike LaMarra and Chris Miller hot on his heals in the sister MINI JCW Team entries.

Chad McCumbee completed the top five in ST in the No. 25 Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5.

Several cars hit problems in the short Practice 3 that did impede their ability to take part in the qualifying session.

The No. 33 CJ Wilson Racing Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport stopped at pit entry after suffering a drivetrain-related issue and did not return for qualifying.

The No. 26 Freedom Autosport Mazda MX-5 which led the ST class in practice yesterday, meanwhile, recorded just a single lap in Practice 3.

The team came in for driver-change practice after the first tour of the circuit but would not restart and had to be taken back to the paddock to assess the malady, and did not turn a lap in qualifying.

The two-hour Road America 120 is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT with live coverage and commentary from IMSA Radio.
