Michael Johnson has been transported to a local hospital following an accident in Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge testing at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday.

Johnson, the driver of the No. 54 JDC-Miller MotorSports Audi RS 3 LMS, made heavy contact with the Turn 6 barriers after reportedly going straight off track.

The paraplegic driver was initially sent to the trackside medical center before being transported to a hospital for further evaluation.

Johnson and co-driver Stephen Simpson have stepped up to the new-for-2018 TCR class this year, following two seasons in ST class competition.
