Mercedes-AMG will unveil its GT4 contender, the Mercedes-AMG GT4, at next week’s Total 24 Hours of Spa ahead of an end-of-year race debut.

The car was announced in December at the manufacturer’s awards dinner in Stuttgart and is the third model in its customer racing program following the SLS AMG GT3 and Mercedes-AMG GT3, which made its debuts in 2010 and 2016, respectively.

It features a four-liter twin-turbo V8 and is based on the road-going Mercedes-AMG GT R.

AMG Chairman Tobias Moers told Sportscar365 earlier this year that the brand was aiming for an end-of-year debut in VLN, and Head of AMG Customer Racing Stefan Wendl has confirmed this target.

“I am very happy to welcome a new member of the Customer Racing family at the occasion of the 24-hour race that can be seen in action at the race tracks at the end of the year,” he said.

Mercedes joins manufacturers including Audi, BMW, McLaren, Chevrolet and Ford with announced or recently-debuted GT4 cars.

In addition to its car reveal, Mercedes-AMG will provide factory support to three of the 11 GT3 cars racing at Spa, with Black Falcon, HTP Motorsport, AKKA ASP and Goodsmile Racing & Team Ukyo all fielding entries.
