New Mustang GT4 Effort for Sandberg, Barkey

Brett Sandberg and Martin Barkey are set for their return to Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge, having been confirmed in the new Andrew Wojteczko Autosport operation next year.

The pair will share the wheel of a Ford Mustang GT4, with the Canadian team, run by former Mantella Autosport team manager Andrew Wojteczko, evaluating a second entry in the GS class.

“I’m thrilled with the way the new program is coming together,” Wojteczko said. “We have a great driver lineup and an awesome platform with the Mustang GT4 to compete with.

“I’m fortunate to have some of the best crew in the business making sure nothing is left to chance. I’ve had the pleasure of working with both Martin and Brett previously and know we can achieve great things together.

“Being able to represent a Canadian built race car, manufactured just down the street at Multimatic is a huge honor.”

The team recently took delivery of its first Multimatic-built Mustang GT4 and completed a successful test at Road Atlanta.

“The Mustang GT4 seems to be a car that responds well right out of the box,” Barkey said. “That said, I do look forward to continued testing and becoming more familiar with the platform.

“With Andrew’s experience and drive for perfection combined with the ‘never quit’ attitude of the AWA crew I have no doubt our MBRP Performance Exhaust Mustang will be a front runner throughout the season.”

Former Pirelli World Challenge GTS champion Sandberg, meanwhile, returns to U.S. racing full-time following a stint in the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup this year.

“It has been a few years since I have made a full-season IMSA debut and cannot be more excited about campaigning this brand new GT4 Mustang alongside a long-time friend and past teammate.”

    Do we have a possible entry list for GS yet? Looking forward to seeing some huge fields and lots of great competition in 2018.

    The more Mustangs the better, and nothing is better to see than “super cars” getting beat by super Mustangs!

      I didn’t see that happen very often last year, IMSA’s got the Mustang gagged down so badly it was only making up time in the twisty bits at RA. They are reportedly close to 100 HP short of what a stock GT350 makes. Makes it uninteresting when $300K supercars are classed with $30K mass produced pony cars, and the sanctioning body fails to even up the field.
