Airborne Crash for Mazda DPi Ends Practice 3

The third and final IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship practice session at Watkins Glen International came to an early end following an heavy accident for the No. 77 Team Joest Mazda RT24-P of Rene Rast, which ended upside down.

Contact with the No. 73 Park Place Motorsports Porsche 911 GT3 R of Patrick Lindsey sent Rast into the dramatic crash at the exit of the Esses.

The accident brought out the session-ending red flag with less than five minutes left on the clock, with Rast evaluated and released from the infield care center.

It was one of two red flags during the session, the first for the No. 55 Mazda DPi of Harry Tincknell, who briefly stopped on track before rejoining.

The No. 6 Team Penske Acura ARX-05 of Dane Cameron, meanwhile, led the way in the session with a 1:32.975 lap.

GT Le Mans was paced by the No. 67 Ford GT of Richard Westbrook, with Kyle Marcelli pacing GT Daytona in the No. 14 3GT Racing Lexus RC F GT3.

Qualifying is set to get underway at 11:35 a.m. EDT.
