Alegra Motorsports has set its driver lineup for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, with Daniel Morad, Billy Johnson and Michael De Quesada being joined by factory Mercedes-AMG driver Maxi Buhk for the Florida endurance classic.

The announcement marks a reunion for Morad and De Quesada, who drove with team owner Carlos De Quesada, Michael Christensen and Jesse Lazare en route to the GT Daytona class victory in the 2017 edition of the race.

Johnson is no stranger to the team either, having driven with Alegra in selected races in the team’s GT World Challenge America effort in 2019.

The driver lineup for Alegra’s planned full-season GTD program with its Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo has not yet been disclosed although is understood to include Canadian Morad.

“I’m really happy to be back with Alegra Motorsports in the IMSA WeatherTech series,” he said.

“This will be the first time we’ve reunited the squad in the championship since we won the Rolex 24 in 2017. It’s a fresh look for us, as the team recently made a big switch to the AMG brand. This is something I am very much looking forward to.”

Buhk added: “It’s great to be supporting Alegra Motorsports and their new Mercedes-Benz AMG GT3.

“There is a good amount of endurance racing and winning in this driver line up which will play a key role in this race.”

Ex-Ford GT factory driver Johnson, meanwhile, believes the lineup will be a contender for class honors.

“I’m really excited to be driving for Alegra in the 24 Hours at Daytona,” Johnson said. “They are a great group of guys who know how to win this race.”

De Quesada is coming off a Michelin Endurance Cup program with the AIM Vasser Sullivan Lexus squad.

“I’m looking forward to getting back in the car with Daniel and the rest of the team,” he said. “It was a surreal experience when we won the 24 Hours back in 2017, so hopefully we can do that again in 2021.”

The Alegra entry is expected to be the only full season Mercedes-AMG GT3 on the grid in the WeatherTech Championship this year following Riley Motorsports’ move to the LMP3 class for the 2021 season.
